I look up and see the clear sky is filled with kites, green, yellow, red, orange.

The kites symbolize the kite races that Amir loved growing up.   It does not talk about the competition of kite racing but  Amir's simple joy of kites.  Amir does not dream of winning but just enjoying the Afghan past-time of kite flying with his friend Hassan.
